Mindfulness
What - mindfulness is the practice of being present, fully embracing the present moment without any judgement.
Why - Studies suggest that mindfulness practices may help people manage stress, cope better with serious illness and reduce anxiety and depression. Many people who practice mindfulness report an increased ability to relax, a greater enthusiasm for life and improved self-esteem (NIH News In Health, 2012).
How - start by focusing on one thing at a time. Becoming more aware of your breath and really inhabiting your body. Feel your feet planted on the ground and experience that life force within you, your own energy within. It can be done anywhere, really. Waiting in a queue, walking, working. Notice your surroundings, but do not judge them. Notice that your brain quiets and every time you do have a thought, label it “thinking” and bring yourself back to the present moment. Enjoy slowing down and really living every moment.
Like I do right this very moment finishing this sentence, word by word…
Have a blessed one,
